We asked 2,796 people in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US, Singapore, the Netherlands and Germany about the top reasons why they watch the Olympics, and whether they think hosting the Games represents a good use of public funds.
Here’s what we found:
More than HALF of Kiwis 54% & Aussies 52% watch the Olympics as it gives them a feeling of national pride, followed by the Brits 42% and Dutch 38%
49% of Americans, 46% of Germans and 41% of Singaporeans like to watch the Games because they find it culturally interesting
47% of Germans are extremely interested in the Games, followed by Americans 36%, Aussies and Brits 29%, Kiwis 28% and Singaporeans and Dutch both at 25%
64% of Americans think that hosting an Olympic Games represents a good use of public funds, along with Brits 61%, Singaporeans 60%, Aussies 53%, Kiwis 50%, Germans 49% and Dutch 41%
