More than half of Australians want digital platforms like Facebook to ban live streaming in the wake of the Christchurch shootings, a survey by market researcher Pureprofile suggests.

The survey of more than 1000 Australians, conducted in the week from March 18, found 53 per cent want live streaming banned from Facebook, to avoid graphic or violent content being shared.

That number compares to 29 per cent who did not want the ban, and 18 per cent unsure.
