Christmas crime spike: 21% rise in home thefts prompts warning

This holiday season Australians are being encouraged to boost their home security measures with NRMA Insurance claims data revealing December is the month when most home thefts occur1.  

Last year, NRMA Insurance saw a more than 20% increase in home theft claims across the country in December2.  

NRMA Insurance Executive Manager Claims Natalie Major said: “We see a surge in home burglaries over the summer holidays as more people are away from their homes travelling or visiting family and friends. Christmas is also a time when we tend to keep more valuables around the home such as presents for loved ones.
