People’s perceptions on politics in sport
With only one week to go, we asked 2,796 people in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US, Singapore, the Netherlands and Germany about their perceptions of how society views the role of politics in the Olympics and the importance of gender equality in the Games.
Here’s what we found:
About HALF of Aussies, Kiwis, Brits, Americans, Dutch and Germans believe politics should play no role at all at the Games, compared to ¼ of Singaporeans
Less than 5% of people surveyed believe that politics should play a dominant role at the Olympics
This year’s Olympic Games will feature an equal number of male and female participants for the first time. 48% of Americans think gender equality at the Games has taken too long, followed by 42% of Brits and Dutch, 41% of Aussies, 40% of Germans, 37% of Kiwis and 31% of Singaporeans
