Embracing the Thanksgiving spirit, we explore the popularity of traditions that bring people together and the excitement of Black Friday, where the thrill of bargains and the allure of discounted treasures set the stage for a shopping extravaganza.

We asked 503 people, taken from a nationally representative sample from the United States, about their upcoming plans and Black Friday shopping over the Thanksgiving weekend. This is what we found:

15%
of Americans will spend Thanksgiving alone at home while 49% will attend a friend or family member’s gathering

Over 1 in 4 Americans will do their Black Friday shopping over Thanksgiving weekend

Clothes, electronics and food & drink are the top purchases shoppers will make this Black Friday

Only 8% of Americans say they will be doing community or charity work

¼ of Americans will watch the football over Thanksgiving
