Which sport wins GOLD as the favourite Olympic event to watch across the globe?

As the world eagerly anticipates the Paris 2024 Olympics, our latest research delves into the sports that ignite the most excitement. From classic events such as athletics and swimming to the debut of breakdancing, there’s something for everyone.

We asked 2,796 people in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US, Singapore, the Netherlands and Germany about their favourite Olympic sports to watch, here’s what we found:

In Australia, swimming took the gold with 33%, followed by athletics 18% and gymnastics 13%

The Kiwi favourites were athletics 25%, followed by gymnastics 23% and swimming 12%

The Brits said they enjoyed athletics the most at 38%, followed by gymnastics 18% and football 10%

In the US, the top favourites were gymnastics at 36%, athletics 13% and swimming 12%

Singapore favoured swimming the most at 31%, followed by football 20% and athletics 11%

In the Netherlands, the overall favourite was football at 23%, closely followed by athletics 21% and gymnastics 13%

Athletics was first on the podium for Germany at 33%, football at 23% and swimming 12%

With breakdancing emerging as an Olympic sport for the first time, Americans were the most keen to watch it at 24%, while on the other hand, 38% of Brits said they weren’t interested at all
