As November rolls by and we move quickly towards the festive season, retailers are turning their minds to Christmas gifting. In anticipation of the gift-buying season, Lizzy O’Riordan looks at what’s likely to be in demand for Christmas 2024.

ADVENT CALENDARS

Every year there’s debate about whether advent calendars are overdone within drinks, and of course, there is no clear conclusion. But if payment service Clearpay’s sales data from last Christmas is anything to go by, it appears that consumers are still interested in alcohol-based calendars, both for themselves and as gifts.

According to insight company Pureprofile’s Global Christmas Report 2024, Britons are planning to spend more this year on gifting. The research found “Brits plan to spend an average of £362 on gifts,” which is 10% more than last year and almost half of the UK households surveyed do not expect the cost of living to impact their Christmas spending.
