It seems everyday Aussies might be more than a bit delusional about how rich they are, or otherwise.
The latest point being the Aussie home. You see when it comes to the great Aussie dream it might just be – NIMBY: not in my backyard.
According to new research, Aussies are very aware of the falling property market across the country. The thing is, they just don’t think their home will be affected.
According to a survey from Pureprofile, the majority of Australians believe the broader property market will see prices fall in the next 12 months, however they don’t believe this will not affect their own backyards.
House prices in our capital cities have fallen by as much as five per cent over the last year, with some expecting the slump to continue through to 2028. However Aussies remain confident in the appeal of their own place, with 60 per cent of respondents saying their local property prices will stay where they are or increase.
“The results suggest Australians have a different assessment of what they’re seeing in their local area and what they’re hearing about the broader housing market,” KPMG Urban Economist, Terry Rawnsley said.
