Prioritising payment flexibility and security with PayPal

Today’s consumers are highly experience-driven, expecting secure, simple, and frictionless online shopping experiences.

With Australians spending an average of $1,334 on online transactions each month, according to PayPal’s eCommerce Index 2024, they have more choice than ever about where they purchase. When retailers don’t deliver on consumer expectations, they lose their chance to get a share of that ever elusive spend and miss out on building lasting customer relationships.

According to the research, limited payment options, friction in the checkout process, and security concerns, are all major factors in deterring customers at the point of purchase.

The research was produced by PayPal Australia, based on an online study conducted by Pureprofile with n=1000 sample size. The consumer research consisted of a sample audience of Australians aged 18-75, and was weighted by age, gender and location to ensure data was nationally representative. Quotas and samples were set on turnover and location. The research was fielded from 5 April to 10 April 2024.
