University of Western Australia: COVID-19 Briefings

Julie Lee, Joanne Sneddon and Paul Gerrans joined forces at the Centre for Human and Cultural Values in The University of Western Australia to explore how Australians have been impacted by COVID-19. As part of an Australian Research Council Linkage grant with Pureprofile, they have been surveying the same respondents for more than 3 years to better understand how their values and behaviours change over time. Pureprofile provided a unique opportunity to re-survey the same respondents through their panel and compare how their behaviour shifted during the pandemic.
What they found may provide answers to the question of how to motivate more people to download the COVIDSafe app and continue social distancing, which will be especially important if a second wave of COVID-19 emerges in Australia. Read the full COVIDSafe app briefing
They also explored how financial fragility has influenced people’s decision to access their superannuation early during the COVID-19 crisis, and the implications this might have post-crisis. Discover the full results in the briefing
Additional insights were uncovered on how the pandemic has affected individuals donations to charitable causes. At a time of crisis, when donations are critical to provide much needed services, over a quarter of donors reported giving less than usual in the last 6 months. Find out more about the study
